Long Night of the Museums
30th to 31st January 2010, 6pm - 2am
The anniversaries of five important scientific institutions in Berlin give reason to declare Berlin “the Capital of Science“ in 2010. The museums take first place amongst those congratulating, as scientific research, the foundation and result of collecting, preserving and presenting, has an essential place in these institutes. The ancestor of scientific work in Berlin is undoubtedly Alexander von Humboldt. Much of what Humboldt brought back from his discovery journeys is still on display in Berlin museums and collections today. The Long Night of the Museums this winter therefore focuses on science and research. The 60 participating institutions show that science – in accordance with Humboldt´s beliefs – can be illustrative and entertaining.
